Bangkok Day 3 (16/10/2013)

Woke up at 8am and the first thing that I hear was not traffic or human noises.  Its' pitter patter pitter patter.  RAIN ! Urghhhhhh! Looks like we will have to go into shopping malls and not be able to explore roadside stalls.

After a quick breakfast, we decided to go to Terminal 21.  Not for shopping.  Kids wanted to visit all the toilets there.  They have seen me googled for info on Terminal 21 and was impressed with ...the toilets?!?! Took the BTS to Asoke and spent about 2.5 hours there, exploring the loos and foodcourt.  I would say no one shops or buy things there..not sure how those retail shops survived.

Take a look at the infamous loos that takes load of "dumps" each day..enjoy !  :))

Can't resist taking a photo of the this !Lol! They even have a deodorizer button ! Cheeky kids depressed it couple of time and ended up with perpermint sprayed onto their bums. Oh my god..the squeals of laughter !

I might have missed visiting one or two more themed toilets...but never mind, that's the most times I have visited that many loos in a day !  Limit liao..

Now...foodcourt. We have to buy a store value card first before proceeding to the food stalls.

Not many pics on the food.  Too hungry eating :)

A quick look around before leaving Terminal 21. Some random shots :

As it was still raining when we finished at Terminal 21, we decided to go back to shop at MBK.

My 1st stop was at Beauty Buffet.  They have shops all around Bangkok and most people will pop by the shop the buy their body lotions, cosmetics etc.  I bought their triple whitening lotion.  Tried on when I reached back the hotel and it seems to worked and calmed by slightly tanned skin as a result of walking under the sun for the past 2 days.  Not bad, not bad ! You can actually also smell the "milk" in the lotion.  Pleasant aroma though.  In case you are wondering...no, not smelling like soured milk !  I see young women stashing their baskets with bottles and jars and cans..wow!  Must be a very popular brand here, with both local and tourists alike.

Can't really remember, but I think I paid 280 Baht for this bottle..

Dinner for tonight - T&K Seafood.  Green shirt !

As this stall is located in Chinatown, it is not possible to reach by BTS.  MRT is possible.  Nearest station is Hua Lumpong.  But it will take about 15-20 mins walk and also, I think that it is not easy to navigate around Chinatown in the night too as all the streets looks kind of "messy".  We took a taxi from our hotel and the cab fare came up to about 53 baht.  We paid 100 baht and got off the cab.  As T&K is located along the main road, the taxi driver should be able to let you alight right in front of it.  Don't let the taxi driver pull a fast one and let you alight elsewhere.

After my meal, and if I may absolutely honest, this stall is rated highly mainly becoz food here is cheap.  In terms of food taste it's only so-so.  But if you think in terms of paying a very reasonable price for fresh seafood items, not minding the taste, then this place is good.  Our whole meal cost only approx 1000 baht.  Considering the number of dishes and items that we ordered, where to find lei?

While waiting for our food to be served, I managed to snap every page of the menu.  Crazy ? Yeah... I know..

Tom Yum Goong

 Steam Fish with Lime

Egg Omelette with Oysters

Grilled Sotong

Grilled Prawns

Fresh Oysters

After our meal, we roamed around Chinatown.  Basically it is only one main street and shops on both sides that diners can shop around.  Won't get lost.   All the "evening" food that other writers recommend can be found along this stretch of road.

We went to Nam Xing for our desserts...Bird Nest ! Lol! This restaurant is right next to T&K.  You won't miss it..the huge brightly lighted sign board.  Before I went to Bangkok, I kept scratching my head as to how near would be Nam Xing and T&K.  Now I know.  They are immediate neighbours!

This signboard was taken when I was seated at T&K having my dinner..

There are different prices for different grades of bird nest, ranging from 200 baht to 1500 baht

Free Chrysenthenum Tea

The following are random pics I took while roaming the main streets.  If you see any interesting food hawkers in these photos, rest assured the are located along the main road stretch.  Can slowly find..

In the evening, this is the main busy street at Chinatown

When you are shopping at Chinatown, do not just visit shops that most tourist will pop into to buy souvenirs / goodies.  Walk further down the streets to look for shops that sell similar stuff, you may just get frsher stuff and better deals.

After buying big packets, small packets, we took a cab back to the hotel.  Seems like taxi drivers do know that tourists are at their mercy.  The quote flat fees, not by meter.  100 baht to bring us back to our hotel.  Ok lor, coz that was what we were prepared to pay anyway.  However, when we went back to Chinatown again over the weekend, the flat fees became 150 baht.  Some taxis even asked for 200 baht !  The ridiculous thing is that, our hotel is barely 7-8 mins away.  LESSON LEARNT : As long as we think that the price is reasonable, just pay and move on.  No point to hassle over one or few dollars and end up hot, sweaty and unhappy.  If we are on a holiday, then be prepared to spend a few bucks more, no sweat.  :)  My 2 cents worth..heeheehe..

Going to find God of Sleep now...shall continue tomorrow.

Stay tune !
