Bangkok Day 2 (15/10/2013)

Rise and shine ! It's our 2nd day in Bangkok.  After quick wash up, we took a cab from the hotel to Pratunam.  Cab fare : 47 Baht.  The cab driver was really lacking in manners.  When I asked and confirmed with him if he charges by meter fare, he said so very loudly and impatiently " YA ! YA !"  Haiz...so when he alighted us, I gave him the exact fare of 47 baht and kept back the 100 baht that I got ready to pay to the driver, regardless of the fare $$.  Saved 53 baht go buy liang teh to cool down boiling fire. :(

We were trying to look for the wanton noodles that apparently all Singaporeans will go to (directions at the end of the post).  Well, the noodles definitely lives up to its reputation, but that is because they use pork lard ! Yumzzz! Not cheap though, the charges are 50 baht per bowl.  Very small quantity.  My kids wolfed down 2 bowls each...

The stall helpers all speak either teochew or Chinese, so placing order was a breeze.

The shop exterior ...

These are chrysanthenum drinks..too sweet for my liking, but refreshing though, after that little episode with the taxi driver...:)
My family finds the braises pork, intestines etc only so-so.  It's salty and not really cooked till soft and tender.  But since we are there, everything must try try..
 The Wanton Noodles
The quantity- with a pair of chopsticks you can lift up all the noodles..

After a burping and fulfilling breakfast, we walked over to Platinum Mall.  Nothing much to write about..just shops shops shops and lots more shops...pics are worth thousands of words...here you go..

Mister Donuts and waffles are all located at the basement

The following is the foodcourt located on the 6th floor of Platinum Mall.  You will have to go and buy a store value card first before proceeding to any counters to buy food

Just to share some of the stuff we bought and their prices:

After mad shopping at Platinum Mall, we decided to head back to the hotel for old folks to rest and take a nap.

For those who wish to walk from Platinum Mall to the Chitlom BTS Station, here is the direction :

Step out of Platinum Mall, turn right, walk all the way stright till you see, McDonalds, and finally Starbucks.  Then you will see a little stairs outside of Starbucks, climb the stairs, continue walking straight, with a river view on right hand side and the main road on your left.

You will see Central World. Remember what I wrote on directions to the Salt Bake Fish stall in Bangkok Day 1?  Yes, again, you walk along the "length" of Central World, and you will reach the stairs leading up to the BTS skywalk.  Once you are up the skywalk, rememeber to walk towards Chitlom BTS and NOT Siam BTS, because SIAM station is much further away. I tried that once and I thought my leg will give way...:(

For our dinner, we walked over to MBK and dined at Fuji Restaurant.  Ok lah...nothing to shout about, except that the prices are really cheap.  We ordered 7 main cosurse ( kids had 2 each), 2 or 3 side dishes, green tea...total cost about SGD50 -60/-.  Quantity is rather big hence if you are a small eater, probably can go slow with your orders and always share if portion is big.

Eye feasting time again :))

This Bento set is really big and can easily be shared by 2 pax !

After dinner, we walked and shop at MBK.  Surprising, we can see a lot of shops there being run by middle east / Indian shop owners.

Finally, back to hotel and have an early night.

DIRECTIONS :

Wanton Mee Stall

If you are taking a taxi to this stall, just tell the driver to go to Platinum Mall.  Once you alight from the taxi in front of the mall, look for the overhead silver looking bridge linking the mall to the other side of the road. Use the bridge to cross over to the other side of the road. When you are down from the bridge, turn left (actually when you are down on the last step from the bridge, you are actually already facing the "left" side..so walk straight). In about 20metres, you will be able to see a lane on your right.  Turn into this lane.  Walk another 10m or so and you will see the wanton mee stall on your right. Afraid that you will turn into the wrong lane? No fret, the lane is sandwiched between Shibuya10 and a goldsmith shop. (refer to pic below).  Thus, if you are super kiasu, look out for pinky Shibuya, check that opp. of it is the goldsmith shop..:))

In case you choose to take the BTS, also can lah.  Alight at Chitlom.  Use the directions that I have provided in my Bangkok Day 1 post to walk towards the salt bake fish stall.  Exact same directions.  But don't be too shock if you see no salt bake fish stalls..in the morning it is replaced by roadside stalls selling t-shirts, scarfs etc.  Just continue to walk down, you should be able to see a small little river.  Once you passed this river, you can see Starbucks.  Walk all the way down and you will reach Platinum Mall.

MBK

As our hotel is just opposite of MBK, we walked there.  If one were to take the BTS, just alight at National Stadium station and this is linked to MBK.  Entrance to MBK is via Tokyo Dept Store. Easy.
