Shanghai / Hangzhou Day 8 (14/6/2014)

This is home sweet home day!  Holiday is aways nice, but no place like home! :))
We went to a local lane eatery for a simple breakfast.  You can find this eatery along the lane between First Foodhall and this white color shopping mall.  See the green light there? Yes, that's right walk down this street.  The eatery is on your left after 1-2 mins walk.  The preserved fruit stall that I mentioned is also along this lane..opposite the eatery, a little further that's all.

This is the road name to the eatery..

The buns are of very nice texture and it is obvious it's handmade.  The preserved vergetables buns - Best! My gal and me had 3 each ! (tsk tsk :))

They also sell freshly made Xiao Long Bao, and for lunch, they serve dishes and rice..all the very appetising, especially that big fat yellow steam chicken! Clean and comfy place to have a meal.

See what this toddler is wearing? In China, it is common for young toddlers to wear rompers/pants with a slit like that.  Easy for relief.  LOL!! My kids have not seen this before and exclaimed sooooooo excitedy that the kid's pants was torn!  What a good laugh they had when I explained to them.

There are quite many food stalls along this street.  Enjoy the photo sights !

Old folks and kids returned to the hotel for a quick feshening up and pack stuff while I go and get refund for our metro store valur card.
NOTE: YOU CAN ONLY GET REFUND AT CERTAIN STATIONS.  So if you want a refund, please allow yourself enough transport time to and fro hotel before you set off to the airport.
Also, refund counters will stop operations at 1900 hours.  So please take note.
Deposit per store value card is RMB20/-.
The following photo shows the stations that you can go to for refund.  Look at LINE 2 - Be careful if you are going for refund on Line 2.  There is a station call Century Avenue and the refund station is at CENTURY PARK - 2 stations more from Century Avenue.  I made a boo boo, alighted at Century Avenue and only to be told wrong station.
TIP : When u are taking the train to go for refund, DO NOT use your store value card.  Buy a single trip card.  That is because when you reach the station that you want to go to for your refund, you do not need to tap ticket to get out of station . U can do it from within the station at the control station.  After that, take the return train to the station you want to go.  Use the same single fare card to exit. Pay 1 fare, make 2 journeys.  BUt make sure you don't delay too long.  Anyway no big deal, if need to and you exceed time limit, just top up the fare difference at the control station.

Ticket Vending machine...

Touch screen..

Jus to show how a typicl signage will look like at each train station..it will show last station and next station stops

This is a single journey card..

This is a store value card..

Finally, after about half an hour, I was back at the hotel.  We checked out, left our luggage at the concierge and went for lunch.

This restaurant is located inside Seventh Heaven Hotel.  Can't remember which floor it is on.  They serve good authentic Shanghainese food..slightly expensive but worth it as the quality is there.  Patronised mainly by locals..We did not see any tourist around.  Last order is 2pm for lunch.

Regretted ordering this pot of Chrysanthenum...SGD16/-!  To be fair, the waitress did tell us the price before hand.  Should have opted for tea or water...cheaper..heeheee!

This cold dish is heavenly!

Fried smelly tofu..strange, no smelly whiff at all, but when you bite into it, you can feel the stinkiness...nice anyway..

Yam and Lotus panfried together...

Lamb ribs..similar to those pork ribs that we have tasted at Di Shui Dong..but this is lamb ribs and it is either steamed or boiled..I dunno...but nice too..

Braised pigs intestines..so so...

The restaurant is on the same floor as the hotel's reception.  This hotel seems to be popular with tourists as well.  My mum checked out the walk in rates...much cheaper than Sofitel!

Seventh Heaven Hotel is just a 1-2 mins walk from Sofitel.  You won't miss it.  They have this very huge " I love Shanghai neon light poster" on its building and there is a Giodano boutique at its Level 1.  There is this really huge wall thermoter outside its building! Each morning from our hotel room, we will peep out from our room window to read the temperature.

Finally after lunch, driver came to pick us up at 3.30pm and in no time, we were on our way to Pudong Airport.  45 mins car ride.

PS: For those of you thinking of taking the metro to the airport, it is relatively easy.  But if you have heavy luggages, be fore-warned that the metro station does not have escalators leading down to the station.  At least I did not see it...do check at some point before your last day.  In case it is too troublesome, either split your stuff into smaller bags or ...take taxi lor..

Wahahahaa! 1st time in all our travel trips... one of our luggage got detained and I was asked to go into this room.  Heart thumping....Turned out they thought we have something explosive in the bags because....dear old dad brought an handheld electronic fan with him, whicj requires 5 small batteries, stacked on top of each other.  BOMB meh?  Anyway, it was an experience.  When I see on the X-ray screen, it looks like an electric fan..why on earth do they want us to open up luggage to check? Annyway, that's fine, because they are doing their jobs to ensure a safe trip for all of us.  :))

While waiting for me, my dad picked up RMB30/- on the floor.  He smiled and said "worth the wait"...huh? NO thank u, old dad! It was not a pleasant experience !

Finally touched down SIngapore at 12.30am!  Went to the local transport tour desk and booked a maxi cab for SGD60/-.  Everyone tumbled tiredly into the taxi..home bound!

That's all folks! Our 7N8D Shanghai / Hangzhou trip has ended !  Next trip, we will be going to......lol ! Don't know where yet.  Shall see..

So..if you are going to Shanghai / Hangzhou, hope you manage to find some useful info from my blog.  Thank you for reading !

CHEERS!
